Media Advisory: Yankees World Series Victory Means 10 Tons of Produce to Food Bank For New York City
Local Hunts Point Market Pitches in and Delivers an Additional 10 Tons
of Produce to Philly
The Philadelphia Regional Produce Market and New York Hunts Point Terminal Market will make good on their World Series wager on Tuesday, Nov. 10. A Philadelphia truck festooned with Yankees signs will make its way from the Philadelphia Regional Produce Market to Hunts Point Terminal Market Tuesday morning. Employees at the Philadelphia market will don Yankee apparel while loading the truck.
After a nail-biting World Series, the Yankees clinched the Championship title Wednesday night, which means Philadelphia Regional Produce Market must donate one truckload of produce to Food Bank For New York City. While New York City’s Hunts Point Terminal Market has the bragging rights, Philadelphia and New York have just announced that both food banks will make out on this deal. Understanding the ever-growing need for food, and in the spirit of good sportsmanship, Sonny Di Crecchio, the executive director of Philadelphia Regional Produce Market and Matthew D’ Arrigo, Co-President of the Hunts Point Terminal Market have arranged for Philabundance to receive a truckload of produce as well.
The trucks will depart from their respective markets at 7:00 AM. The trip is approximately 120 miles. The estimated time of arrival at Philabundance is 10:00 AM and Food Bank For New York City is 10:00AM.
The bet:
If the Philadelphia Phillies won, the Hunts Point Terminal Market agreed to donate one truckload of produce to Philabundance, Philadelphia’s local food bank. However, if the Yankees clinched the World Series title the Philadelphia Regional Produce Market would donate a truckload of produce to the Food Bank for New York City. One truckload contains more than ten tons of produce. Sweetening the deal, some in the losing market will don the winning team’s jersey while loading the truck.
Excellent photo opportunities in Philadelphia and New York – Philadelphia truckers and employees sporting Yankees apparel will load a truck adorned with Yankees logos, while New York’s Hunts Point employees will load a truck with 10 tons of produce destined for Philabundance.
