  The IRS recognizes the Food Bank For New York City as the largest coordinator of civilian tax assistance in the country. Food Bank volunteers, who have received IRS certification, help provide as much as $100 million in tax refunds for New York City's working poor annually.

Food Sourcing & Distribution
Food Bank For New York City was founded in 1983 with the goal to get large quantities of food to local organizations serving the poor throughout the five boroughs. During our first year, the Food Bank distributed 500,000 pounds of food to 95 food assistance programs. Today, as the city's major supplier of food to a network of more than 1,000 programs, the Food Bank procures, stores and distributes more than 74 million pounds of food every year, including more than 13 million pounds of fresh produce— helping to provide 300,000 free meals a day for New Yorkers in need.
