#FoodBank2Albany: Strengthen HPNAP, Strengthen New York
February 24, 2016 – Dozens of emergency food providers from New York City joined representatives from across New York State to call for an increase in funding for the Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) to $51M in the coming State budget. Community leaders also shared messages from thousands of community members who have shown their support for prioritizing HPNAP to help close the Meal Gap in New York State.
Advocates joined State Senator John Bonacic and Assembly Member Marcos Crespo, who have led the call within the State legislature for this increase to HPNAP. Food Bank For New York City’s delegation delivered their message to all State Senate and Assembly Members who represent the five boroughs, including Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, as well as Senate President John Flanagan and Governor Andrew Cuomo. HPNAP provides essential support for soup kitchens and food pantries that work every day to serve over three million New York State residents – including 1.4 million in New York City.
