Disaster Relief

Food Bank For New York City plays a vital role in responding to emergencies that impact the city and our nation. As one of the largest food banks in the country, the scale of our normal operations — which include providing millions of pounds of food to approximately 1,000 community-based member programs throughout the city's five boroughs — creates the potential for the Food Bank to provide significant aid to people affected by disasters.

During and after Hurricane Sandy, Food Bank continued to provide food and water to affected communities around the city.  We also rolled out "standing routes" to more efficiently deliver food as well as benefits access to the hardest-hit areas.
