$141 Million in Refunds for New Yorkers
May 11, 2015 – Every year, our tax and volunteer engagement teams join forces to help New Yorkers boost their bottom line. For people who are struggling, a tax refund means financial oxygen needed to pay for emergencies, long-tabled wants, and immediate needs like groceries. It means being able to catch up on bills to alleviate a bit of the daily pressure. In partnership with our member network, we offered 120 full-service and drop off tax sites covering every borough this tax season.
Thanks to the support of the Department of Consumer Affairs and other dedicated partners we expanded our reach, enabling Food Bank to help prepare 85,000 tax returns and get back $141 million in refunds and credits for hardworking New Yorkers. We made even more of an impact by putting increased focus on neighborhoods with the highest needs, targeting our tax prep sites in those areas—a strategy that paid huge dividends for the people who needed it most.
