Mission Engagement Tour, July 2014

On July 29, Food Bank For New York City hosted donors and corporate and government partners on a tour throughout the South Bronx to see our mission in action. The Mission Engagement Tour, which raises awareness about our innovative approaches to closing the meal gap in New York City, kicked off at our Food Distribution Center in Hunt’s Point, where attendees got a firsthand look at our operation and how Food Bank receives, stores and distributes food to the five boroughs.

Our next stop was Give Them to Eat, a Food Bank member charity. Guests learned about the charity’s operations and the implications of our work and network firsthand. The tour continued with a visit to one of Food Bank’s RVs—mobile units that bring vital services into communities—where South Bronx residents were being screened onsite for SNAP and other benefits. Our Change One Thing truck was the final stop of the day. Tour attendees spoke with Food Bank’s Teen Ambassadors, on hand to promote Change One Thing, a campaign that encourages healthy choices.
