Food Bank For New York City was founded in 1983 with the goal to get large quantities of food to local organizations serving the poor throughout the five boroughs. During our first year, the Food Bank distributed 500,000 pounds of food to 95 food assistance programs. Since our founding, the Food Bank has distributed more than one billion pounds of food for New Yorkers in need. As the city's major supplier of food to a network of more than 1,000 community-based member programs, the Food Bank now procures, stores and distributes more than 74 million pounds of food every year, including more than 13 million pounds of fresh produce— helping to provide 425,000 free meals a day for New Yorkers in need.

Our Warehouse

The Food Bank's 90,000 square foot warehouse — located at the Hunts Point Cooperative Market in the Bronx, the largest wholesale food distribution center in the worldincludes a freezer and refrigerator for perishable products.

Food Bank For New York City works in partnership with approximately 740 member organizations, which run approximately 1,000 community-based programs throughout the five boroughs to help get food to New Yorkers at risk of going hungry.
