Innovation in Action
Hunger is a complex problem that won’t be solved without being willing to re-examine business as usual. Solutions must be innovative, scalable, daring and dynamic. As the landscape of hunger changes in New York City, Food Bank continues to lead the way through innovation and with nontraditional approaches to helping and serving our neighbors.
Going Beyond the Expected
Food Bank’s nationally recognized Tiered Engagement Network (TEN) facilitates collaboration between charities of varying capacities towards shared goals. Using Food Bank provided technology and partner leveraging, charities from across the city track the successful movement of their client base from emergency to stability.
All In For New Yorkers in Need
Food Bank founded the award winning SNAP Task Force to facilitate open collaboration between public and private anti-hunger organizations. The group’s purpose is to use a mediation model to understand and and resolve SNAP application issues for NYC residents.
Greening Food Deserts
Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry is an innovative produce distribution program allowing Food Bank to provide greater access to fresh fruit and vegetables to New Yorkers living in communities of highest need. For charities, Mobile Pantry allows onsite operations to no longer hinder the ability to serve.
Serving Students Beyond the Classroom
Food Bank’s Campus Pantry program helps bridge the meal gap experienced by students of all ages, giving them access to emergency food that can be used to make balanced, nutritious meals at home. More and more schools are also offering “client choice” pantries, which are designed like grocery stores to allow children and young adults to select their own healthy food, including fresh produce.
Bridging the Gap between Food and Finances
Food Bank’s Financial Empowerment Services offer intensive training designed to equip low-to-moderate income parents with basic financial management skills. With an emphasis on household budgeting and food security, our Food & Finances services are helping New Yorkers in need achieve greater financial stability and independence for their families.
