Last week, 1 million New York households lost $95 or more in SNAP benefits. That’s because the additional SNAP allotments expired this month due to the ending of the Federal Emergency Health Declaration.
Food prices having increased more than 10 percent since a year ago – a 40-year high. The loss of additional SNAP allotments equivalent to 23 million meals per month city-wide – could not come at a worse time for New Yorkers who are already cutting back at the grocery store and increasingly turning to hunger-assistance organizations.
