Mission Engagement Tour November 2014

November 14, 2014 – Food Bank For New York City traveled with donors and partners on our Mission Engagement Tour to provide an insider’s look at our mission in action. The Mission Engagement Tour, which raises awareness about our innovative approach to closing the meal gap in New York City, kicked off at our Food Distribution Center in Hunt’s Point, where attendees got a firsthand look at our operation and how Food Bank receives, stores and distributes food to the five boroughs.

After visiting our Warehouse, guests “followed the food” and headed to Brooklyn to tour two member agencies in Bed-Stuy. Our first stop was Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger where guests learned more about the VITA Tax Program and financial counseling services, client choice pantries, and the benefits of our Tiered Engagement Network. The tour then headed to Neighbors Together, a program serving nutritious meals Monday to Friday and offering numerous assistance programs for their clients. The tour closed with a discussion about the many challenges this community faces and the ways Food Bank and its members are tackling these issues and advocating for change.
