NEW YORK, November 20, 2024 – Food Bank For New York City announced today that a $32,000 grant from the Morgan Stanley Foundation will support its programs to more effectively reach children and families facing hunger in New York City.
Support from this grant will go toward programs including Mobile Pantries that target households with children. Located at sites across New York City that serve high numbers of families with children, Food Bank For New York City’s Mobile Pantries provide a variety of seasonal fresh produce, shelf-stable food items, and frozen protein options.
Food insecurity exists in every county, parish and borough in the United States. It impacts people of all ages, races, ethnicities, abilities and beliefs. In New York City one in four children face hunger.
“We could not be more grateful to the Morgan Stanley Foundation for this generous grant to help us reach our youngest neighbors and their families,” said Elizabeth Romano, Senior Director of Operations at Food Bank For New York City. “Support from this grant will help power our Mobile Pantry program, which brings fresh produce, shelf-stable goods, and critical resources right into the communities that need us most. At a time when one in four children is facing food insecurity in New York City, support like this is a vital lifeline, not only for us, but for the families we proudly serve across the five boroughs.”
Food Bank For New York City is one of 44 Feeding America® partner food banks receiving funding from the Morgan Stanley Foundation this year, as part of its long-standing commitment to supporting children’s health in communities across the country. The Morgan Stanley Foundation has announced $8 million in additional funding over the next four years to Feeding America, bringing the firm’s total funding to more than $50 million since 2009 to support local hunger-relief programs that deliver food assistance and nutritious meals to children and families.
