January 23, 2016 – In preparation for Winter Storm Jonas, Food Bank For New York City put its emergency response plan into action, preparing to meet the need at a time when New Yorkers need it most.
On Friday, our operations team made extra deliveries to food pantries and soup kitchens in addition to all scheduled deliveries.
In Harlem, at our Community Kitchen and Pantry, emergency pantry bags as well as prepared hot meals were distributed to the community Friday evening. In addition, Emergency Pantry Bags will be distributed on Monday starting at 11am.
Food Bank is scheduled to open on Monday, with all operations and services working at full capacity, continuing to serve the 1.5 million New Yorkers who rely on us and our network for food and other services. Food Bank’s free tax preparation service locations are closed Saturday but will reopen Monday.
We will be keeping a close eye on the storm and update our website and social media channels with any changes.
