(Employees celebrate after packing 27,000 meals)
Despite some early-morning rain, more than 300 Morgan Stanley employees descended upon Times Square on Friday, June 1 to pack over 27,000 meals for New Yorkers in need. Volunteers, including Vice Chair Tom Nides (who arrived straight from the airport), helped pack around 22,000 pounds of food to be distributed through Food Bank’s food pantries, soup kitchens and schools citywide. The event was powered by Krasdale Foods.
The Food Bank 2 Go event marked the second consecutive year Food Bank For New York City, Morgan Stanley and Feeding America have partnered on the massive meal-packing project as part of both a national Summer Hunger Awareness campaign and Morgan Stanley’s 13th annual 24-hour global volunteer initiative to fight childhood hunger. In NYC, 1 in 5 children relies on a soup kitchen or food pantry to eat. The problem is compounded during the summer months when more than one million NYC school-aged children lose access to the National School Lunch and Breakfast program.
In addition, Food Bank For New York City will be featured on Morgan Stanley’s Lights on Broadway digital billboards throughout June. Morgan Stanley lends the multiple jumbotrons on its Times Square headquarters to a different nonprofit each month. Lights on Broadway helps build awareness for a variety of causes, as the popular tourist destination sees an average of 350,000 daily visitors. To catch a glimpse of the Food Bank campaign, visit the Morgan Stanley building in Times Square between West 47 and West 48 Streets.
Morgan Stanley’s longstanding support of Food Bank has enabled the Campus Pantry program to deliver more nutritious meals to children and families across the five boroughs. Food Bank is grateful to Morgan Stanley and Feeding America for their continued commitment to help end hunger in New York City.
Food Bank 2 Go is a custom service project in which Food Bank tailors a meal-packing project to fit the unique needs of the sponsoring organization. Once volunteers finish assembling the pantry boxes, they are delivered to clients within hours.
