June 11, 2015 – On June 10, the New York City SNAP Task Force, chaired and organized by Food Bank For New York City, received the 2015 Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) Award for Innovative Anti-Hunger Work. Food Bank President and CEO Margarette Purvis accepted the award on behalf of the Task Force, along with the Chief Special Services Officer from the New York City Human Resources Administration, Daniel Tietz. FRAC recognized the Task Force for its innovative solutions to improving access to SNAP (food stamps) for low-income New Yorkers, especially its Mediation Model, which streamlines troubleshooting and helps to resolve enrollment issues quickly.
“It is partnership that has made the achievements of the Task Force possible,” said Food Bank CEO Margarette Purvis during her acceptance. The NYC SNAP Task Force is comprised of more than 200 SNAP advocates, service providers and government representatives—including the New York City Human Resources Administration—that work collaboratively to help ensure that the SNAP program in our city functions more efficiently and effectively for struggling New Yorkers who rely on this critical benefit.
