October 30, 2015 – Food Bank’s annual CookShop Conference brought together New York City public school teachers from all five boroughs for hands-on training in our CookShop program, which empowers children, teens and adults to eat healthfully on a limited budget.
In two separate training sessions on October 24th and October 29th, Food Bank’s staff prepared 830 educators and school staff to lead CookShop programming in nearly 200 schools across the five boroughs.
Thank you to Michael Mulgrew, President of the United Federation of Teachers, for offering inspiring words of welcome, and Stephanie Garren, Assistant Principal of PS 72 M The Lexington Academy, for providing firsthand accounts of CookShop’s positive impact on school communities. And, an extra special thanks to all the teachers, parent coordinators and school staff who work with us in empowering low-income families to lead healthy, active lifestyles!
