About

Did you know that Food Bank’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program has already returned over $1 billion to the pockets of low-income New Yorkers? But we can’t do it alone – we need your help this tax season!

Each month, we invite all new and returning volunteers to attend this event to learn more about the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and meet with the Food Bank Tax Team and fellow volunteers who served in past years. Participate individually or with your school or company to return life-changing refunds to low-income New Yorkers. No prior financial experience is necessary; all training is provided free of charge.

What we’ll discuss:

  • Learn how to get involved in Food Bank’s 2024 free tax assistance program.
  • Hear from past volunteers on their work and its impacts.
  • Meet Food Bank staff and get your questions answered!

About VITA

For over 20 years, Food Bank For New York City’s FREE citywide tax assistance program has put more than $1.4 billion back into the pockets of low-income New Yorkers and has saved filers over $200 million in tax preparation fees. We operate an IRS-sponsored VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program and rely on hundreds of dedicated volunteers to ensure filers get the refunds they deserve, which reduces poverty and food insecurity.
