New York, NY — Food Bank For New York City is partnering with world-renowned artist KAWS to spread some holiday love and provide meals for families in need. KAWS has designed a holiday card that will benefit Food Bank to support its current response to the hunger crisis in New York City. A limited run of 1,000 boxed sets containing 25 holiday cards is available for pre-order exclusively on Food Bank’s online store for $100 each.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to collaborate with Food Bank For New York City as they work to end hunger. I encourage everyone to support this vital service,” said KAWS.
Earlier this year, KAWS raised $25,000 for Food Bank through the sale of a limited-edition print as part of his efforts to aid COVID-19 relief efforts in New York City. Based in NYC, KAWS is considered one of the most relevant artists of our time. His influential work engages people across generations and brings contemporary art and popular culture to diverse audiences.
“We are very grateful for all of the help KAWS has provided during this difficult time. Using your gift for art and creativity to help others is truly inspiring,” said Leslie Gordon, President and CEO of Food Bank For New York City. “Because of the pandemic, thousands of families are struggling to put food on the table, and Food Bank is working tirelessly every day to help our New York neighbors put a warm meal on the table this holiday season.”
More than one million people in New York City were already experiencing food insecurity before the pandemic. With the economic downturn from the pandemic putting many people out of work, and rapidly increasing the need for assistance, the demand the number of New Yorkers visiting soup kitchens and pantries throughout the five boroughs has doubled.
